Wattle Family Photo Shoots in Sydney

When Sydney’s winter feels a little grey, the wattles arrive and everything bursts back into colour. For a few short weeks in late July and August, golden wattle trees bloom across the city, filling the air with bright yellow blossoms and bringing the bush to life.

It’s one of my favourite times of year to photograph families. Wattle sessions are joyful, bold, and so uniquely Australian. The yellow pops beautifully in photos, and kids love running through the trees and playing with fallen sprigs.

I run Wattle mini sessions in Centennial Park — my signature location — where the golden flowers transform the fields into something truly magical.

What Wattle Shoots Are Like

  • Short & fun minis — perfect for capturing the season without fuss.
  • Morning or afternoon light — both work beautifully against the yellow blossoms.
  • Bright & playful — the bold colour means the photos are always full of joy.
  • Uniquely Australian — nothing says “Sydney winter” quite like a wattle in bloom.

Why Families Love Wattle Photos

  • Seasonal magic: The fluffy wattles I love only last a few weeks, so the photos are unique and special.
  • Easy & accessible: Centennial Park is central, parking is simple, and sessions are quick.
  • Timeless but vibrant: The photos look stunning now and will still feel fresh in years to come.
  • Kids adore it: Wattles are interactive- kids love playing with the fluffy branches, and these sessions are only 20 minutes long which is perfect for little attention spans!
